Two optional choices, controlled separately
The website offers separate choices for optional analytics and Google Maps. Both begin switched off. You can reject optional features, accept them or save an individual choice using the privacy panel. The Accept optional and Reject optional buttons are presented together. The quote enquiry form works without either category, so viewing a map or agreeing to analytics is not a condition of asking about building work.
Where your choice is stored
The site stores the preference record in browser local storage under lm-preferences-v2. It records the two choices, their date and the preference version, and is treated as valid for up to 180 days. This is browser storage rather than the text of a project enquiry. It contains no enquiry name, email address, property postcode or project description. If browser storage is cleared or unavailable, the website may need to show the choices again.
Optional analytics
When a dedicated Google Analytics configuration is enabled, the Google tag is added only after analytics has been accepted. The site guards against loading the tag more than once on a page. Analytics events use approved page and service information; enquiry names, emails, postcodes and descriptions are not included in those site events. An analytics choice does not enable Maps. Google’s own processing and storage are governed by its applicable information and the configuration used.
Optional Google Maps
A map is loaded only after you choose to allow the map feature. The area selector covers Liverpool, Wirral, Knowsley, Sefton and St Helens; only the selected embedded map is added, rather than loading all maps in the background. Connecting to Google may allow Google cookies or other storage. If an embed cannot be displayed, the geographical text, enquiry form and external Google Maps route remain available.
Changing a saved choice
Select Privacy preferences in the footer to reopen the controls. Save the choices you want to use. Withdrawing Maps removes embedded map frames through the site controls, while withdrawing analytics disables further site analytics activity and attempts to clear relevant Google Analytics cookies available to the site. Browser and third-party restrictions can limit what a website can remove, and changing a preference does not recall information already transmitted.
Enquiry and security controls
The enquiry form checks required information, applies spam and rate controls and prevents a duplicate submission from creating another identical record. These functions are separate from optional analytics or map viewing. Administrative login or session features may involve WordPress cookies for people using those functions. An ordinary visitor does not need to sign in to use the building-service information or complete the public project form.
External websites
A council, planning source or Google Maps link may open another website. That website applies its own privacy information and storage choices. Following an external link is different from accepting an embedded feature on this website. Check the provider’s information when you use its service, particularly if you choose to sign into an account or send further information directly to that provider.
Related privacy information
This page explains the site’s application controls and saved preference record. Enquiry information is separate from those browser choices; read the privacy information presented with the form when deciding whether to submit personal details. Google’s own information applies when its services are used. Browser restrictions and third-party changes can affect storage behaviour, so this description is not a promise that every browser or third-party request has been covered by a completed cookie scan.
YOUR QUESTIONS
Cookies and Optional Features — Questions and Answers
What is the difference between local storage and a cookie?
Both can store information in a browser, but they operate differently. This website’s preference record uses local storage to remember the optional choices; the project description is not placed in that record. Google features or administrative WordPress functions may use their own cookies. The important choice here is whether to enable the optional feature, not whether every storage mechanism has the same technical name.
Can I accept a map but reject analytics?
The two categories have separate controls. You can allow Google Maps while leaving analytics off, or make the opposite choice. Selecting a geographical area without loading it does not enable analytics. The form remains available whichever optional choices you make, and the footer preference control lets you revisit the selection later.
Why have I been asked for my preferences again?
The saved record may have expired, been cleared or become unavailable in the browser you are using. A different browser or device will not necessarily have the same stored preference. The website treats its record as valid for up to 180 days. Choose again using the current controls rather than assuming a previous choice on another device has been transferred.
Will rejecting Maps remove the service information?
The service descriptions, local pages and enquiry route remain available. Rejecting the optional feature keeps the Google iframe unloaded; it does not hide the building guidance or prevent you from describing a project. An ordinary external link to Google Maps is a separate route if you later decide to visit Google’s own website directly.
